Today the boys got their first shots. It was as awful as we heard it could be. The boys slept really good last night, we got ready way ahead of schedule and the boys were all smiles. It just started out as an excellent day. Both got a little fussy waiting in their seats to ride to Champaign, but other than that were ok. We rode up with my mom and just met Rob at her job (to try to save a little on gas). We decided to kill some time at Walmart, before their appointment. We got them fed right before their appointment and went in with two VERY sleepy boys. Of course, the meltdown's began when we had to strip them down. Reed stayed pissed off the entire appointment and Dane ended up falling asleep again. The shots were last..I'm sure they do that to minimize the screaming they have to hear in the office... Reed got his first and he screamed so loud and so much on the first shot, I don' even think he realized he got two more. It was a cry we've never heard before. Dane was asleep when he got his, which was about as bad. I can't imagine being woken up to someone stabbing me in the leg. He screamed a scream that was about as bad as Reed's. We left the appointment with two tired boys too. They've slept all afternoon. They are even skipping some feedings. We're keeping up on the Tylenol and trying to get food in when we can. They have been excellent since we left the clinic. Rob says he thinks there is something between shots and babies getting better with sleeping and such...now we know that they are like..."seriously we'll be good babies, just don't let people stab us again"..."we'll sleep through the night...promise."
My sister says it gets better each time, but shots are the hardest thing to watch. At least they calmed down once we held them and we can give the boys some good lovin' time tonight. We'll probably have a few band-aid shots later. You know...we're the ones that take pictures of EVERYTHING!! Rob already took a few of Dane and I napping today. Dane totally suckered me in, it was totally unfair. But man it felt great to sleep and having a baby on me makes it that much easier to catch a few Z's. It's contagious.
